"I was inspired by the bright shiny helmets of the Peloton bicycles which passed with a 'whoosh'," stated Silvio Apponyi, the sculptor of this wonderful statue located in Balhannah.  Each year Adelaidians are joyfully immersed in a cycling frenzy when the Tour Down Under comes to town.  Vistas of lycra and bright shiny helmets 'whoosh' along the streets as Tour Down Under teams compete in the six race stages held in various locations from the city to the sea and to the hills.  This statue captures beautifully the spirit of the event.
